The Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association (JANA) is a publication that welcomes original research articles, reviews on clinical studies, book reviews, abstracts, and correspondence from readers. Submitted manuscripts on original research will be promptly acknowledged and peer-reviewed by members of the editorial review panel. Authors will be notified of the publication date. Submitted manuscripts must not be submitted for publication elsewhere or have been published previously.

Copyright
Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication, all authors will be asked to sign an agreement transferring copyright to the publisher, who reserves copyright. The copyright act of 1976 requires that all manuscripts submitted for publication be accompanied by the following statement, signed and dated by all authors:

The undersigned author(s) transfer(s) all copy right ownership of the manuscript to The Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association in the event the work is published. The under signed author(s) warrant(s) that the article is original, is not under consideration by another journal, and has not been previously published. No published material may be reproduced elsewhere with out the written permission of the publisher.

The Guidelines for Contributors to the Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association are in accordance with the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals appearing in Annals of Internal Medicine 1988; 108:266-273. Reprints of the full requirements are available on request.

Send the original and three hard copies of the manuscript with one copy on a 3.5 computer disk (Macintosh or PC format only). Indicate on the label the type of computer and name of the software program used to create the file. Mail submission to: Mark C. Houston, M.D., Editor-in-Chief, Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association, 5120 Selkirk Drive, Suite 100, Birmingham, AL 35242.

  • A cover letter signed by the author(s) should identify the appropriate address, telephone and fax numbers to which correspondence can be sent.
  • When a paper originates from or identifies a particular institution, the author is responsible for securing any necessary authorization required by that institution prior to submitting the manuscript.
  • The author is responsible for obtaining written permission of persons who can be identified in any photographs submitted and for obtaining publisher and author permission for copyrighted materials.
  • In the cover letter the following statement should be included. All authors have contributed to each of the three activities: 1. Conception/design and/or analysis/interpretation; 2. Writing; 3. Approval of final version and acceptance of responsibility for the content of the paper.
  • Authors must disclose all possible conflicts of interest (e.g., funding sources for consultancies or studies of products).
  • Manuscripts must be double-spaced, typed on one side of 8.5" x 11" bond paper, with one-inch margins.
  • No submitted article can exceed 20 typewritten pages, including references.
  • Each submission must be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 200 words.
  • References should begin on a new page, be primarily from the past five years (unless providing historical information), be limited to those cited in the text, and be double-spaced.
  • Contributors are responsible for all statements made in their manuscripts and for obtaining written permission from copyright owners for illustrations and lengthy quotes.

Illustrations, Figures, and Drawings

  • Illustrations and lettering must be of professional quality. Drawings should be black and white and submitted in camera-ready form. Tables or figures should only be used to clarify material and must be numbered consecutively in text.
  • All tables and figures should have titles and be easily understood. Figures should have a short description beneath them summarizing the salient points.

The editors, publisher, and reviewers disclaim any responsibility for such statements. Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of statements made in their manuscripts.
